Written in September 2014, partly in Madrid, partly in Munich, while I was in the "missing Bruce" mood. I kept the song more general so that you can relate it to any beloved person you feel grateful to - but I couldn't resist to add at least one verse that alludes to the original song inspiration.

You showed me how to dance in the rainfall
You made me smile when I was sad
You gave me your company when I was running
lonely through deserted streets

Whenever I was sinking in the mud, you built me up
Whenever an enemy’s bullet struck, you built me up

The river of life is flowing steadily
down to what none of us can see
You’re further down but close in spirit
‘til you pass away eventually

Whenever I was drowning in the flood, you built me up
Whenever both of my wrists got cut, you built me up
Whenever I needed someone to prevent me from the crush
When you hear this song you know I’ll miss you and I wish you all the luck
You built me up

The longer you’re out of sight and hearing
All around just growing void
Like a rock star not being on tour
Like water missing in the soil

Whenever my heart got shot, you built me up
Whenever my hopes got robbed, you built me up
Whenever I needed someone here to share my blood
When you hear this song you know I’ll miss you and I wish you all the luck
You built me up

Whenever I needed someone to prevent me from the crush
Whenever I needed someone here to share my blood
Whenever I needed somebody to make me rock
When you hear this song you know I’ll miss you and I wish you all the luck
You built me up
