Well long ago on the cusp of becoming a man
My family and I took a ride down to Spain
We dove down into the water to wash away our sins
And to escape some of our destructive routines

Then I went to Granada with a picture in my hand
Just to see Spanish Anna again
Asking all the bartenders was in vain
But I felt alive, alive as you can

Now I’m back to the roots, back to the roots
Where I started my cruise
Down to the waters that wash me anew
Shaking the dust off my shoes

Now I’m back to the roots, back to the roots
Where I lost my blues
Down to the waters that wash me anew
Shaking the dust off my boots

Well I travelled through India from the dunes to the shore
I was just 20 years feeling older afterwards
I had to walk through the deserts deep in my heart
To find out that this world nurtures me enough

Then I came back to the town, to the place I was born
To the church I was baptized on a bed of thorns
And I see those faces, those faces have changed
And I don’t remember their names

Now I’m back to the roots, back to the roots
Where I started my cruise
Down to the waters that wash me anew
Shaking the dust off my shoes

I’m going back to the roots, back to the roots
Where the vibes are good
Down to the waters that wash me anew
Shaking the dust off my boots

Well a long time has passed, since I was sleeping in your arms
Life’s hardness has been into our hearts
We’ve learned to live apart and run on separate tracks
Our wounds have been healed, our souls are still in unrest

Now I’m alone in the dark like so many times before
And I hear my heart pumping and your silent call
I see your face right before me just like it was alive
And I get on the road again with a goal for my ride
And I’m riding once again
