Written around 2005 in Munich, in a dark mood, on a sunny day, sitting on a stone at Max-Joseph-Platz vis-à-vis the Opera House. Finalized it in Munich 2017.
Sun high above me baby
trying to get through
Sky’s falling all around
spreading all its blue
My cave’s filled with muddy water
comfortably warm
Like a cocoon I’m waiting
to become unwound
A step outside is like a venture into the unknown
My body slowly disappears
a sculpture of the past
Spreading out its blood and pains
struggling to recharge
You wake up in your darkest hour
no way back to sleep
Blinded by sunlight burning
too bright for you to see
Caught in a slumber
with no awakening, no dreams
Baby don’t you understand
This life ain’t easy
There are millions of fools out there
Who let it drift away
There ain’t any answer
There ain’t any reason
Except the one you give in your best way
I’m looking for you through the raging
wilderness of signs
I know that I will recognize you
with my eyes, even blind
These eyelids shield and bind me
at the same time
When you stand right before me
I will open them wide
And give the answer for the best of our lives
Baby don’t you understand
This life ain’t easy
There are millions of fools out there
Who let it drift away
There ain’t any answer
There ain’t any reason
Except the one you give in your best way
Baby don’t you understand
This life ain’t easy
There are millions of fools out there
Who let it drift away
There ain’t any answer
There ain’t any reason
Except the one you give to your true self
