Written in 2013, on my bike on the way home from a lake North of Munich. The title captures the moment of my 40th birthday in Madrid when I opened the door of my room and found a nice present from my Australian flatmate and friend Geoff: a sheet of paper saying "Happy Birthday Old Bastard".
Hey hey hey happy birthday old bastard
Hey hey hey we’re gonna rock on
So long ago since our roads crossed my brother
Hey hey hey we’re gonna rock on
The rain is pouring down, heavily on my skin
the hurricanes are rising just to blow up everything
My mind’s stronger than ever, my balls hard like a stone
to face and handle whatever is about to come along
Hey hey hey happy birthday old bastard
Hey hey hey we’re gonna rock on
So long ago since our roads crossed my brother
Hey hey hey we’re gonna rock on
I’m gonna drive from hell to heaven and back a different route
and nothing’s gonna save me, no net or parachute
The whole world is burning but I'm riding through the sparks
and when I reach the end it’s gonna be a brandnew start
Hey hey hey happy birthday old bastard
Hey hey hey we’re gonna rock on
So long ago since our roads crossed my brother
Hey hey hey we’re gonna rock on
till we’re gone
Gonna leave the safety zones, and jump into the wild
Far in the open ocean you may capsize or survive
The tools that you learnt help you to take the next steps
The tools you gonna learn will get you what you never dared to expect
The only peace on earth that you need for your health
is that deeply being rooted in the grounds of yourself
I’ll meet you in the distance, in the eye of the storm
we’ll be blown away forever or stand our ground
Hey hey hey happy birthday old bastard
Hey hey hey we’re gonna rock on
So long ago since our roads crossed my brother
Hey hey hey we’re gonna rock on
Hey hey hey happy birthday old bastard
Hey hey hey we’re gonna rock on
So long ago since our roads crossed my brother
Hey hey hey we’re gonna rock on till we’re gone
